Welcome to Bona Fide Books
Tahoe Arts and Mountain Culture has released its very own sticker. For every sticker purchased at $3 each, a portion of the proceeds will go to a local non-profit in Lake Tahoe or Truckee. Every four months, TAMC will donate a percentage of the sales to a local non-profit agency. Go here to support Tahoe Arts and Mountain Culture and pick up a nifty sticker!
- It’s time to dust off The Call of the Wild! Join the El Dorado Arts Council and the El Dorado County Library for The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The challenge: For every citizen in the El Dorado County to read the Jack London classic in February or March. For information about The Big Read and local events, check out El Dorado County Big Read.
- Check out the events page for Lit Around the Lake. Jennifer Woodlief, author of A Wall of White, will read at LTCC on Friday, February 26, at 7PM in the library. This event is free and open to the community.
- The Permanent Vacation call for submissions has ended. We received many fine essays -- it will be a fabulous read for anyone interested in our national parks, written by those who have lived in them. Look for our announcement later this year.

Skiing Alone 2
by Janet Smith
The weasel moves in curves,
more remote than an Antarctica,
whiter than a sharp new tooth.
It sees me. Stops. Then
swims into the fingers of a shadow.
No part of me can follow.
No, not quite gone.
Along the rim of my seeing,
a curve of weasel now and then.
Yesterday, I skied
and thought about changing my life.
I looked for weasels,
but even the crows had gone home.
Four jet contrails X'd the sky,
in long straight lines.
Maybe they were dumping toxic waste,
or sending secret messages.
One more thing to not think about.
